Cooperation may comprise the classic F2F, or face to face, however, in the modern Europe, along with new challenges, F2F strategy has been created (from farm to fork), which is among the major measures within the scope of the Green Deal of Europe. This strategy extends beyond the boundaries of “face to face", as bodies on all the levels of the biosphere cooperate within a close chain- starting from the minor microorganisms up to the final consumer, a human.
The Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics (AREI) is operating within this chain, it has been engaged in research in the field of technologies of growing plants and agriculture systems by more than a century by focusing in particular on maintenance of fertility of soil and production of high quality harvest, development of plant species suitable for the Latvian conditions and production of high category seed material. The essence of this work is only revealed within the closest cooperation with farmers who are the main foundation of F2F strategy.
We will visit two farms operating according to the organic agriculture methods and where the result of the intellectual work of AREI has contributed to their success. Those farms encourage all of us by their skills, global view and search for innovative solutions. They are the farm “Ķelmēni” and the farm “Kalna Smīdes".
